Held in late April or early May during the Adelaide Autumn Racing Carnival, the set weights race is open to three-year-old fillies and now runs back on the Robert Sangster Stakes Day card that also features the Group 1 $1 million Robert Sangster Stakes (1200m).
Offering $1 million in prize money, the Australasian Oaks is also a nice lead-up to the Queensland Oaks held in Brisbane during the winter carnival in June and the key Australasian Oaks lead-up is the Group 3 Auraria Stakes (1800m) held at Morphettville in late April.
Egg Tart (2017) was the last filly to complete the Australasian Oaks – Queensland Oaks interstate double.
In 2022 Barb Raider improved on her Australasian Oaks second to win Brisbane’s Group 2 The Roses next-up before finishing second again that year’s Queensland Oaks results.
The 2024 Australasian Oaks form was franked with the third placegetter Coco Sun going on to beat home the boys in the Group 1 South Australian Derby (2500m).
The 2025 Australasian Oaks ran on Saturday April 26, 2025 as the opening Group 1 race of the Adelaide Autumn Racing Carnival on Robert Sangster Stakes Day and was won in style by the deserving favourite Benagil ($3.10F) for trainer Glen Thompson.

- To Win: #2 Benagil ($3.40 at time of publish) – BET NOW
Cracking edition of the Australasian Oaks but sticking with the deserving favourite Benagil who brings in strong form from her lead-up elite level performance at Rosehill. She took on Treasurethe Moment and was brave in defeat when runner-up in the Group 1 Vinery Stud Stakes over this distance on April 1. The winner of that franked the form with an ATC Oaks victory next time out. She is fit now third-up and ready to fire. Has work to do wider out from gate 13 but is racing well, benefits from the booking of Mark Zahra and this looks her right distance. Can win.

Australasian Oaks History
The Australasian Oaks is a relatively new race which was first held in 1982. The first winner of the race was Rose Of Kingston, the dam to Melbourne Cup winner Kingston Rule.
The race is known for producing great staying horses with many going on to place well in the Caulfield Cup. 2008 winner Zarita went on to beat the colts and geldings in the Group 1 SA Derby (2500m), which is held during the same carnival.
The most notable upset in recent Australasian Oaks history was the 2021 victory by 60/1 outsider Media Award.
Plenty of nice types have won the race including Lights Of Heaven (2011) and Delicacy (2015) who came off wins in the WA Oaks and WA Derby, and who also won that year’s SA Derby.
