The mile maestro was last seen saluting at the track and distance when denying Pride Of Jenni a victory after a thrilling battle in the CF Orr a fortnight ago.
He returns now second-up and fitter for his narrow victory fresh ready to dominate the Group 1 $750,000 Futurity Stakes (1400m) on Blue Diamond Stakes Day.
The six-year-old son of Bullbars has a brilliant 1400m Caulfield strike-rate being undefeated over the course and distance (4:4-0-0).
He was runner-up to Alligator Blood in the race last year when it ran at Sandown, but has been enormous since posting a host of elite victories including completing the All-Star Mile – Doncaster Mile double that prep.
The Futurity in 2024 gives Mr Brightside a chance for a sixth Group 1 victory before a title defence in the All-Star Mile.
Craig Williams continues associations on the marvel from a favourable barrier five draw, and the latest Futurity Stakes odds online at Ladbrokes.com.au have him at a short $1.55 for the win.
Black Heart Bart (2017) was the last galloper to complete the CF Orr – Futurity Stakes double in the same year, and Mr Brightside ticks plenty of boxes to suggest he can be the next.
One of his brave rivals s him under $10 in the markets with the only real danger according to the bookies being Attrition at $8.50 first-up.
The Mitchell Freedman-trained Churchill four-year-old is lightly raced having just his 11th start on the weekend and was last seen winning the Group 1 Toorak Handicap (1600m) here by a nostril flare back in mid-October.
The early Futurity Stakes market mover meanwhile is the Godolphin-raced Pericles who has firmed in from $13 to $10 after drawing barrier one for jockey Jamie Kah.
The four-year-old son of Street Boss chases his first win since Randwick’s Group 2 Tramway Stakes (1400m) last September, after which he ran placings in both the Silver Eagle (3rd) and $10 million Golden Eagle (2nd).
Fresh he lined-up in the Orr and ran sixth when four lengths off Mr Brightside who he is hoping to finish closer to second-up.
The Ciaron Maher-trained Nugget is also at a current quote of $10 to score an upset Futurity Stakes win first-up.
The seven-year-old has plenty of form against Mr Brightside including his Doncaster Mile third, and he was last seen running a brave fourth behind Fangirl in the $5 million King Charles III Stakes (1600m) at Randwick in the spring where Mr Brightside finished runner-up.
